Pulmonary Function Lab
The Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Central Florida Pulmonary Group, Inc. offers a wide range of pulmonary function testing (lung function) and exercise tests to assist physicians in diagnosing and managing patients with breathing problems and/or lung disease. Pulmonary function tests help measure the different aspects of lung function and can help determine the cause of shortness of breath and may help confirm lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema. The tests are also used to measure how a lung disease is progressing or how serious the lung disease has become. Pulmonary function tests can also be used to assess how a patient is responding to different treatments. The tests are important since many kinds of lung problems can be successfully treated if detected early.
A Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist will instruct you on how to do each test. Most tests require that you breathe through a tube, and perform various breathing maneuvers. This is occasionally tiring but not usually painful.
Early detection and treatment of lung disease can decrease the severity of disease progression. If you feel that you are a part of this high-risk group or are experiencing respiratory symptoms, contact your physician and see about having a pulmonary function test at our Pulmonary Function Laboratory. It could save your lungs.
